The Right Bird Watching Clothing Makes All the Difference

Bird watching clothing is a key aspect of your whole bird watching experience and is something which should not be overlooked. So, you have decided to embark upon your new bird watching hobby and, being the diligent person that you are, you have an idea of where you want to visit. You also know what types of birds you hope to see, and you have bought a decent pair of binoculars. However, it is also important to know the right bird watching clothing to choose for your trip.

Bird Watching Clothing for All Kinds of Weather

At first, you may think that the ideal time to bird watch is on a nice sunny day, but many avid birdwatchers will pursue their hobby in all kinds of weather, be it rain, snow, or sunshine. If you are the type of person who likes to bird watch in the woods on a crisp autumn day, there are several important things you should wear when it comes to bird watching clothing: a sweatshirt or a long-sleeved shirt with a fleece vest, long pants and a pair of sturdy shoes or comfortable hiking boots.

In the woods, especially where birds like to nest, the floor of the forest can be rocky and littered with tree roots and other debris. Thus, it is very important that a birdwatcher wear the right kind of shoes. These can be either a sturdy pear of sneakers with treaded soles, or hiking boots. It is best to also ensure your footwear is somewhat waterproof – or you may like to take along a pair of Wellington boots just in case.

Depending on where you live, the autumn the weather can be either comfortably cool or still slightly warm. Wear a sweatshirt on days when the weather is cooler. For days when the weather is slightly warmer, you could wear a long-sleeved shirt with a fleece vest. Either way, when in the woods it is always important to wear a long-sleeved shirt to protect against bug bites.

Long pants made of durable fabric are also a must when bird watching in the woods. Many of the areas where birds tend to nest involves climbing through prickly bushes, and to avoid getting scratched (as well as getting bitten by bugs or ticks), it is always important to wear long pants for safety. Your local army surplus store should have just what you need, although it is now common even for stores like Wal-Mart to stock pants that would be hardy enough to use as bird watching clothing.

If you are an absolutely committed bird watcher who would like to get as close to the birds as possible, there are many types of camouflage clothing you can wear. Again, your local army surplus should be on your list of stores to visit. You can, of course, wear regular clothing, but make sure it contains colors that blend in well with the surroundings of the forest. Above all else, whether you are an adventurous or a cautious bird watcher, bird watching clothing should always be comfortable and safe.
